Easter is almost here, and once again, I am wracking my brain to come up with some good ideas for the Easter Bunny to bring.
The first question to answer is what one puts in those little plastic eggs. Is it just me, or do they seem to multiply while in storage? My children seem to think that the bunny needs to fill each and every one of them. I swear it would take six bags of candy to fill all of the eggs they have collected, and it just seems wrong to have two children eat six bags of candy. Heaven knows I would have to help them eat all of that candy, and that wouldn’t be a very good thing! One friend suggested putting coins in some of the eggs. I think I will try that this year. I can’t help eat coins!
I have always tried to find toys that can be played outdoors for the bunny to give. We are all so excited spring is here, and it always made sense to me to get a kite or sidewalk chalk to encourage outdoor play. Other ideas I have used include tennis rackets and hula hoops. I took this idea a little too far one year and got both of my children bicycles from the bunny. They needed bikes anyway, and I figured that it was a better idea for the bunny to give the bikes instead of buying some bunny toys and then buying the bikes a week later. This back-fired, as the kids started thinking the Easter Bunny is like Santa Claus. They started making lists for the bunny with items like doll houses and electronic games.
Since Easter is the most important Christian holiday of the year, I do try to get some kind of religious gift to put in the basket. Some of the gifts I have gotten are necklaces with a cross for a pendant, devotional bibles for kids (they include games and journaling pages), Christian music CD’s, Bible story books, and bookmarks with Bible verses on them. These items are always a big hit.
Of course, you could get your kids a real-live bunny. I have been able to escape this Easter gift so far, as my husband refuses to have any type of rodent for a pet. I have to admit, they are very cute. But I’m glad my husband gives me an excuse, as I’m sure rabbit care would eventually fall to me!
Whatever you choose to put in that cute little basket, I hope you enjoy the gift of time with family this Easter.
