My husband simply loves his money clip. For many years, he happily carried a wallet. He received a money clip as a gift from my parents for Christmas. (What else do you give to someone who has everything?) The money clip sat in his dresser drawer for a year or so, unused.

Then, finally, his wallet wore out. He asked for a new wallet for Christmas (forgetting he already had a money clip). His grandmother got him a lovely wallet. But, being the picky person he is, the wallet wasn’t quite right. I don’t know if it didn’t have enough compartments, too many compartments, or compartments that opened the wrong direction. My guess is, once he put things away in the wallet, he couldn’t remember where they were. (Now, women experience this all of the time when we use a new purse. But my husband has little patience for this kind of thing.)

This set him out on a search for the perfect wallet (still forgetting the hinged folding money clip sitting in his dresser drawer). The search went on for several weeks. Nothing he found was quite right. Then, he unearthed the money clip while searching for a pair of socks. Since his old wallet was barely holding together, he decided to give the money clip a try.

It was love. Having grown up in a large city, he knew he should not carry his wallet in his back pocket, but it wasn’t comfortable carrying it in his front pocket, and he was always afraid it would fall out of his coat pocket. My husband is very conscious of his appearance, and was not happy with the “look” of a bulky wallet in any of his pockets. The money clip allowed him to carry just what he needed – driver’s license, credit card, and some cash – with none of the extra bulk of a wallet. He also can tell at a glance that all of his cards and cash are present. And as an added bonus, when he leaves his money clip on the dresser at night, I can tell just how much cash he has to share!

But what happened to those precious pictures of the kids and his lovely wife that he used to carry in his wallet? Being a normal, technology obsessed male, he now has his pictures saved on his cell phone to show to anyone who asks (and, of course, to some who don’t ask).

Now if they could just come up with a way to make his key chain as handy and small as the money clip!
